GENERAL GUIDELINES FOR MANUSCRIPT
Journal of Oriental Neuropsychiatry is the official publication of the Korean Society of Oriental Neuropsychiatry. The instruction to authors not described thereafter follows the Recommendations for the Conduct, Reporting, Editing and Publication of Scholarly Work in Medical Journals” prepared by International Committee of Medical Journal Editors (http://www.icmje.org/index.html).

1. Content and publication type
It accepts original papers of research articles, short communications, reviews, editorial, opinion, book reviews, and other invited papers on the undergraduate, graduate and continuing medical education in the field of traditional medicine and mental diseases. Letter to editor is always welcomed on the published articles.

2.  Qualification as authors 
The first author and corresponding author should be a member of the Journal of Oriental Neuropsychiatry.
If they are not members, they should apply to membership before submission. However, there is an exception
if Editorial board admits.

3. Research and publication ethics
Duplicate Publication: The papers already published to other scientific journals or periodicals are not considered for publication. The published paper to this journal should not be submitted to other scientific journal. Secondary publication is only possible when it is compatible to the “Acceptable Secondary Publication” policy suggested in the “Recommendations for the Conduct, Reporting, Editing and Publication of Scholarly Work in Medical Journals” prepared by International Committee of Medical Journal Editors.

Authorship: Authors who meets all of following conditions can be listed: 1) Substantial contributions to the conception or design of the work; or the acquisition, analysis, or interpretation of data for the work; AND 2) Drafting the work or revising it critically for important intellectual content; AND 3) Final approval of the version to be published; AND 4) Agreement to be accountable for all aspects of the work in ensuring that questions related to the accuracy or integrity of any part of the work are appropriately investigated and resolved.

Co-authoring a publication with people with personal connections : Submitting co-authored papers with involve minors (age under 19) or family members (spouse, offspring, relatives, and so on) (‘people with personal connections’), notify your affiliations and the Editorial board about the type of relationship, the roles of people with personal connections in the research and justification to list someone with personal connections as an author.

Conflict-of-Interest Statement: If there are any conflicts of interest related to individual author’s commitments or project support, it should be clarified and described in the manuscript.

Informed Consent: The manuscripts related to the human subjects or samples drawn from humans should receive the informed consent according to the rule of Institutional Review Board of author’s institute.

Statement of Human and Animal Rights: Authors should keep the ethical and standard of Institutional Review Board of author’s institute and the Helsinki Declaration in 1975 (revised in 2000). In case of animal experiment, authors should keep the institutional or national guideline for the care and the use of laboratory animals.
The editor of JON may request submission copies of informed consents from human subjects in clinical studies or IRB approval documents.

For the policies on the research and publication ethics not stated in these instructions, “Good Publication Practice Guidelines for Medical Journals (http://kamje.or.kr/publishing_ethics.html)” or “Guidelines on good publication (http://www.publicationethics.org.uk/guidelines)” can be applied. If there are any ethical issues from the manuscripts, it should be first reviewed by Editorial Board and the recommendations should be processed by the Society. If anyone does not agree or accept the decision by Society in the process of ethical issues, those may be referred to the Korean Society of Oriental Neuropsychiatry Editors (http://www.onp.or.kr) or appropriate Committee of the corresponding institutes.

4.Submission of manuscript
Authors are requested to submit their manuscripts electronically to: www.jon90.org , and to submit an authors checklist and copyright agreement with the manuscript.

Important information

• • Articles submitted by online should be in Haangul document format (*.hwp) and prepared in the simplest form possible.
  We will add in the correct font, font size, margins and so on according to the journal's style.
• • You may use automatic page numbering, but do NOT use other kinds of automatic formatting such as footnotes, endnotes, headers and footers.
• • Put text, references, tables, figures, and legends in one file.
• • Figures that are line drawing or photographs must be submitted separately in high-resolution EPS or TIFF format (or alternatively in high-resolution JPEG format). Please ensure that files are supplied at the correct resolution of a minimum of 300 dpi. The files are to be named according to the figure number and format, e.g. Fig1.tif.

• (1) A cover letter. It must include your name, address, telephone and fax numbers, e-mail address, and a list of up to five suggested reviewers with their contact information, and state that all authors have contributed to the paper and have never submitted the manuscript, in whole or in part, to other journals.
• (2) A conflict of interest disclosure statement.
• (3) Articles covering the use of human samples in research and human experiments must be approved by the relevant review committee.
• (4) Articles covering the use of animals in experiments must be approved by the relevant authorities.
• (5) Articles where human subjects can be identified in descriptions, photographs or pedigrees must be accompanied by a signed statement of informed consent to publish (in print and online) the descriptions, photographs and pedigrees from each subject who can be identified.
• (6)Where material has been reproduced from other copyrighted sources, the letter(s) of permission from the copyright holder(s) to use the copyrighted sources must be supplied.
• (7) Ensure correct use of the terms sex (when reporting biological factors) and gender (identity, psychosocial or cultural factors), and, unless inappropriate, report the sex and/or gender of study participants, the sex of animals or cells, and describe the methods used to determine sex and gender. If the study was done involving an exclusive population, for example in only one sex, authors should justify why, except in obvious cases.

5. Publication interval and receipt of manuscript
It is published quarterly in March 30st, June 30st, September 30st and December 30st. Manuscript can be received at any time. The manuscript that does not keep the instruction to authors may be rejected before review. Certificate of receipt of manuscript is issued to the corresponding author via email.

6. Peer-review
Every manuscript received is circulated to two or more peer reviewers. Generally, the author’s name and affiliation is not disclosed during review process to reviewers but information about the author can be made public to the reviewers. The review process can be repeated till three times if the request of revision is suggested by reviewers. If the re-review is repeated more than three times, it may not be considered for publication. Whether or not to publish the treatise is determined by the editor-in-chief by synthesizing the opinions of the reviewers, and if two reviewers do not agree to accept the journal, it may not be also considered for publication. Usually the first review process ends within one month. Manuscript Editing: The finally accepted manuscript will be reviewed by manuscript editor for the consistency of the format and the completeness of references. The manuscript may be revised according to the opinion of the manuscript editor.

7. Fee for peer review and publication
Fee for peer review should be sent to the editorial office after receipt of the manuscript submission. If the manuscript is accepted for publication, the basic publication fee and additional fee for pages over 10 pages are charged. They include the fee of english editing and e-journal publication processing fee.

8. Role of the Editorial Board
The decision on the editing of the journal is made by the Editorial Board. The manuscript may be revised for the consistency of the editorial work as far as the content is not affected. Every manuscript submitted is not returned.

9. Copyright
The copyright and the transfer right of the digital content of the published paper and journal is owned by the Korean Society of Oriental Neuropsychiatry.
